Why did we invest in our people?

As a business owner, it’s easy to be focused on where the next project coming from or ensuring you’re delivering amazing outcomes for your clients. Yesterday we did our end-of-year company brief with our incredible team and I don’t say that without good justification.

There is a circular economy to investing in people which results in your ability to deliver outstanding business outcomes. I’m going to share my reflection on what has been an incredible year for D55.

D55 became an AWS Advanced Tier Partner because;

  • We invested in our people who gained 13 new AWS certifications. We now have 28 in total from Cloud Practitioner to Professional level
  • Over 20 of our clients made the effort to recommend us – thank you to each and every one of you
  • We launched over 20 new client projects

D55 gained 4 AWS Service Delivery Specialisms because;

Again, we recognised the importance of investing in our people to gain AWS certification, so we could deliver value to our clients who took the time to recommend us

Therefore, AWS recognised our technical expertise

  • Lambda
  • API Gateway
  • Dynamo DB
  • EC2 for Windows Server

D55 became AWS GameDay World Champions and went to AWS re:invent in Las Vegas to collect our prize because;

  • We invested in our people to gain AWS certification who used these skills to win AWS GameDay

Apart from investing in AWS certification and training, we invested in our people in other ways;

  • Introduced Mental Health First Aiders
  • Launched a career progression framework linked to an agile Continuous Professional Development Kanban board
  • Fine-tuned our delivery process freeing them to focus on creating business value for our clients
  • Developed our culture as a learning organisation focused on continuous improvement both internally and for our clients

There have been many other highlights for D55 in 2022, we’re 4 years old but this year was the best yet in terms of sales, projects delivered, new clients and lines of code written but none of it would have been possible without our people, who never cease to amaze me with what they accomplish when you invest in them as individuals, create a continuous learning environment, keep your processes lean.

Why do we do it? Because we understand the circular economy of people. Genuinely value your people and they will deliver remarkable outcomes for you and your clients.
